Privacy policy

This policy explains what the Maude AI app and website ("Maude", "we", "us") collect, why, who helps us run the service, and the choices you have. If anything is unclear, email hello@maudeapp.ai.

What we keep, and why

Your account

Your email address, used to sign you in (with a one-time code, or with Google or Microsoft if you choose). If you sign in with Google or Microsoft, we receive only your name and email address.

What you ask Maude to look after

Your lists, notes ("things to remember"), bills, reminders, appointments in Maude's own calendar, the names you use for people ("my daughter"), your emergency contacts, your home address (for weather and directions), your settings, and your conversations with Maude, so she can follow along. These are kept until you delete them or your account.

Your voice and photos

When you talk to Maude, the recording is sent to our speech service to turn it into text, then discarded; we don't keep recordings. When you ask Maude about a photo, it's sent to our AI service with your question to get an answer, and is not stored. Only a note that there was a photo is kept in your conversation.

Your location

If you turn on "use my location", your phone's rough location (about 1 km) is used for the weather and directions when you're away from home. It isn't stored. When you tap "Text my location" in an emergency, your exact location is put into a text message on your phone that you send yourself; it never goes to us.

Your phone's contacts

Your phone's contacts stay on your phone. When you ask Maude to call someone, your phone finds them itself; we don't receive or store your contact list.

Accounts you connect (Google or Microsoft)

If you connect a Google or Microsoft account, you choose what Maude may use: your calendar, your contacts, and/or your email. We store a sign-in key for that account, encrypted, so Maude can reach it when you ask. We then:

• Calendar: read and show your appointments, and add, change or remove appointments only when you say yes.
• Contacts: look up names and phone numbers when you ask to call someone, and recognise emails from people you know. We don't copy your contacts into our database.
• Email: read your recent unread email only when you ask about it, to summarise it, read it to you, or check it for signs of a scam, and send a reply only after you've heard it and said yes. We don't store your emails, and we never delete them.

You can disconnect an account at any time under More, then Connected accounts; this also withdraws Maude's access with Google.

Helpers (caregiver mode)

If you invite a family member or friend to help you, they can see and change your lists, notes, bills, reminders, calendar and settings. They can never read your email or call your contacts through Maude. You can remove a helper at any time.

Technical information

Our servers keep short technical logs (for example, that a request happened and whether it worked) to keep Maude running and secure. We make a point of never logging your messages, emails or notes.

Google user data

Maude AI's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. In particular, we use Google data only to provide the features you've asked for, we don't use it for advertising, we don't sell it, we don't use it to train AI models, and people at Maude don't read it unless you ask us to for support, it's needed for security, or the law requires it.

Who helps us run Maude

We use these service providers. Each receives only what's needed for its job, and none may use your information for its own purposes:

• Anthropic (Claude): the AI that understands your requests and writes Maude's replies. Anthropic doesn't train its models on this data.
• Supabase: our database and sign-in service.
• Railway: hosts Maude's server.
• Deepgram: turns speech into text and gives Maude her voice.
• Resend: sends sign-in emails.
• Google Maps Platform: finding places, directions and travel times.
• Open-Meteo and OpenStreetMap (Nominatim): weather, and turning your home address into a map position.
• Google and Microsoft: only if you connect or sign in with those accounts.

These providers are based in the United States or process data there.

What we never do

• Sell or rent your information.
• Show you adverts or share your information with advertisers.
• Let anyone train AI models on your information.
• Send, delete, call or buy anything on your behalf without your clear yes.

Keeping it safe

Everything travels encrypted between your phone and our servers. Sign-in keys for connected accounts are encrypted again before they're stored (AES-256). Access to our systems is limited to what's needed to run Maude.

How long we keep it

Until you delete it, or delete your account. When you delete your account, everything connected to it is removed from our database straight away.

Your choices and rights

• See or change your information in the app at any time, or ask us for a copy.
• Delete your account in the app: More, then Account, then Delete my account. Or see how to delete your account.
• Disconnect Google or Microsoft under More, then Connected accounts.
• Turn off location in Maude's settings or your phone's settings.

Depending on where you live (for example California), you may have further rights under local law; email us and we'll help.

Children

Maude isn't intended for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their information.

Changes

If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll tell you in the app before it takes effect. The date at the top shows the latest version.
